Heartland Generation Ltd., an affiliate of ECP, was created on September 30, 2019 when it acquired power generation facilities in Alberta and British Columbia. Heartland Generation’s portfolio includes ten facilities with a combined generating capacity of more than 1,800 megawatts (MW) in Alberta and British Columbia, providing reliable and affordable energy to customers across Canada. ECP portfolio company Heartland Generation, an independent power generation company with critical infrastructure assets located in Alberta and British Columbia, has entered into a definitive agreement to sell 100% of its ownership interests to strategic acquirer TransAlta Corporation. Heartland owns a complementary portfolio of 10 natural gas power generation assets, with a combined 2,680 megawatts (MW) of gross capacity. EDMONTON, AB – The Government of Alberta is investing over $40 million through Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA) in 11 projects focused on advancing the province’s global leadership in carbon capture utilization and sequestration (CCUS). If successful, these projects could lead to over $20 billion in capital expenditures, create thousands of jobs, and reduce about 24 million tonnes of emissions annually—this is the equivalent of reducing Alberta’s annual industrial emissions by almost 10 per cent.
