17Cicada combines world-leading expertise in low-carbon synthesis of chemical products; microbial synthesis using Cyanobacteria and Streptomyces; resource recirculation and the circular economy; and genetic manipulation of microbes to produce industrial and/or medical products. The co-Founders are experienced and highly accomplished in academic research and commercialisation of new technology. 17Cicada is a lean start-up. Our philosophy is minimal cash-burn to produce viable products form our core technologies. We advocate developing materials which consumers have already demonstrated they desire. Our unique selling points include low-carbon synthesis; microbial processes which consume carbon dioxide (CO2) or waste feedstocks (as opposed to resource-intensive sugars); non-pathogenic bacteria platforms which enable lower-cost and simpler downstream processing; and high-throughput synthesis of novel molecules for biological/medical screening.
